Abstract Recently certified librarians are revolutionizing the library profession by collaborating with peers and colleagues from all ages to make things happen. This paper investigates certified librarians perception on accessibility and utilization of internet service in Nigeria libraries. The design of the study is cross sectional survey and the population consists of 364, 1st Conference of Certified Librarians by Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) held in 2014.The instrument used to generate data is the questionnaire and the data generated was analyzed using frequency, bar charts, table, percentages and mean. The outcome of the study reveals that majority of the participants were from academic library asserted that internet was very accessible to them. Whereas some libraries indicated that internet was not accessible to them at all. It also found that the participants strongly agreed that the reasons for which staff used the internet in Nigeria libraries are for research purpose, for current awareness services/ update of knowledge and to develop personal competencies among other. It also revealed that, lack of search skills, information overload, power outage, irrelevant information, difficulties in navigation of website, inaccessibility of some sites and unavailability/ inaccessibility of the internet services were some of the challenges faced by the staff in Nigeria libraries.

Abstract The ability to motivate worker’s in an organization will greatly ensure job satisfaction and enhance organizational commitment of workers. Work motivation, job satisfaction and organizational commitment are essential aspects of management. This study was designed to X-ray the work motivation, job satisfaction and organizational commitment Page 3 of 6 of library workers (professional and non professional) in academic and public libraries in Delta State. A total of 200 library workers were surveyed by three set of structured questionnaires. The first set of the questionnaires was on work motivation in both academic and public libraries; the second set was administered only to staff of academic libraries while the third set was administered to staff of public libraries. Data obtained were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count. Results indicated that work motivation of professional staff and non-professional staff differs. It was also revealed that job satisfaction as well as organizational commitment of library staff vary from library to library. The study concludes that the need for workers in libraries to be motivated is important and recommends better pay, good working environment and others in other to ensure the organizational commitment of workers.

Abstract This study was designed to assess the application of information and communication technology (ICT) in College of Education Agbor and Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic libraries respectively. The purpose of the study was to identify the ICT facilities available; to investigate areas ICT can be applied to; the extent of ICT application in both libraries; problem hindering ICT application as well as strategies adopted for improving ICT in these libraries under study. A descriptive survey design was used for the study, with a population of 71 library staff. Questionnaire and observation checklist were used for data collection. Out of 71 questionnaires distributed, 61 were returned representing 85% Page 4 of 6 returned rate. In analyzing the data, percentage, mean, and frequency table were used. The results obtained from frequency table were used. Findings revealed that ICT facilities are available in both libraries; areas ICT application in both libraries is relatively low. It was observed that they were numerous problems facing the implementation of ICT in both libraries, and solutions were equally proffered.

Abstract This paper assessed users’ satisfaction with public library services in Kwara State Library Board (KSLB), Ilorin. Four objectives were formulated for the study. The total population for this study comprised 421, registered users of the library in 2016/2017. A total sample size of 200 was drawn from total population using random sampling techniques. Questionnaire was used in collecting data from respondents. The data collected for this study was analyzed using simple percentage and frequency count. The findings showed that internet, books binding, library collection, reference, selective dissemination of information, current awareness services as well as consultancy services were not adequately provided in the library whereas photocopying services topped the highest services provided. It also, shown that majority were dissatisfied with the services delivered. The findings also, revealed that the problems facing the uses of the library include lack of internet facility, erratic power supply, unconducive toilet facility for library user, insufficient ventilation, inadequate professional staff, lukewarm attitude of the staff, and lack of access to borrowing library books, inadequate time allocated to library user. Appropriate recommendation were proffered. Such as library management and stakeholders should lobby government and internet provider to provide internet facility in the library to enhance efficiency and effective services delivery among others.

Abstract This study focused on availability of electronic information resource (EIR) databases in Universities libraries in Delta State, Nigeria. Four research questions were formulated. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. 5 (five) University libraries in Delta State were used for the study. Data collection were done through the use of structured questionnaire in a checklist format. The analysis of data were done qualitatively. Among the results of this study was that there were no EIR databases in DELSU and FUPRE libraries as at the time this study was conducted. The University libraries that had EIR databases are MCIU, NOVENA and WNU. Among the recommendations was that university libraries should subscribe to more electronic information resource databases for teaching, learning and research.
